16 years old and Caleidra is live!
At the age of 15, Caleidra exploded onto the music scene in April 2012, after her friends posted a demo of ‘The Last Word’ on YouTube.
This saw her facebook, Twitter, Myspace and YouTube fans rise into their thousands. She soon became number 1 on the influential Reverbnation chart for Manchester in the Singer Songwriter genre and entered the top 5 in the UK.
“With You” was recorded with Rob Clydesdale, who had previously worked with David Bowie at The Cream Room and released worldwide on QG Records with Nova/Universal Music. There was a media explosion which saw her appear on UK television, ITV Daybreak and a special feature on ITV Granada Reports. She also undertook numerous radio interviews including BBC Radio and Salford City Radio and was featured in the national press, including The Independent, The Times, Metro and local media such as Oldham Chronicle and Advertiser and even making the front page of the Manchester Evening News, her home city. There are a number of forthcoming features in teen magazines and her video has been made available at Bliss Magazine's website, NME, Firstpost and Huffington Post.
A multi-instrumentalist (piano, guitar, ukulele), already at 16 she has an amazingly powerful and raw voice, and proudly writes all her own material, “I was 8 for my first live performance and my first real song I wrote at 13.”
Caleidra’s image matches her music perfectly. Beauty and youthful energy, combined with an edginess built on honest autobiographical lyrics; Rock on the edge of Pop, or is it Pop on the edge of Rock? Soft Rock-tinged songwriting – real music – a pop artist it is ok for Rock fans to love, or is it the other way around?
“So far my songs have been about loved ones, relationships, falling out, confidence (or usually the lack of it),” the usual stuff that affects teenagers. But importantly, Caleidra’s songs stress that you shouldn’t have your spirit stamped upon by anyone, how to survive being treated badly. Ultimately the songs are optimistic, uplifting. They show the way you can survive a poor relationship and come out with your confidence restored.
“It wasn’t you that was bad – if anything, it was them”.
Caleidra is giving teenagers a voice.
I’m not writing about how it used to be as a teenager – I’m telling how it is now!
Still just 16, Caleidra is currently working on her new single which will be produced by music industry legend John McLaughlin, who has produced smash hits for artists such as Westlife (No.1), Busted (No.1), Sandi Thom (No.1, Pro), Blue, Five, Mark Owen (Take That), 911 (5 Top 5 hits), Echo & the Bunnymen, Shane MacGowan (Pogues) and Mel C. John also had a very successful run as song writing mentor on the BBC's Fame Academy in 2002 & 2003 coaching both winners. The single will be co-produced with Dave Thomas Jr whose songs have been featured on multiple films and TV shows, including "Brothers and Sisters", and U.S. box office #1 hit "17 Again".
She has just performed live on BBC Radio and is currently preparing for a number of live radio sessions including Salford City Radio on 31st January with her live band: Reece, Byron, Matt and Adam.
